Dr. Aginah M. Muhammad is the Director of the Council on Teacher Education. Aginah is responsible for the leadership and oversight of the Council on Teacher Education operations. Aginah works collaboratively with the College of Education, Liberal Arts and Sciences, College of Nursing, Jane Addams College of Social Work and the Council on Teacher Education Deans to ensure state compliance as well as serve as the liaison between UIC and the Illinois State Board of Education. Prior to Dr. Muhammad’s appointment as the Director of the Council on Teacher Education, she served as the Director for the Office of First Year Initiatives at UIC, adjunct faculty at South Suburban College and The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, and administrator with Chicago Public Schools.

Dr. Marietta Giovannelli is the Licensure Officer and Assistant to the Director of the Council on Teacher Education. Marietta is responsible for ensuring candidates meet state and program requirements including student teaching, evaluation and approval of entitlement applications, approving student registration for enrollment into ED 330 and ED 432, and liaison between the university and the Illinois State Board of Education. Dr. Giovannelli’s career with UIC includes service as a Field Instructor, Academic Advisor to elementary and secondary education as well as graduate and doctoral students.

Betsy Gates-Ehlers is the IT Technical Associate for the Council on Teacher Education. Betsy's career with the Council on Teacher Education spans over 14 years. Betsy is responsible for the Council on Teacher Education website, database, outside reports and is the backup to the licensure officer. Betsy is also responsible for technical issues in the early field experience logging process. Betsy earned an MEd in Measurement, Evaluation, Statistics, and Assessment at UIC. She also holds an MS in Information Systems from DePaul University, an MEd in Curriculum and Instruction from Loyola University and is currently studying Library Information Science at the University of Illinois. In addition to her work in the Council on Teacher Education, Betsy has served as an instructor for courses in the Undergraduate and Graduate Elementary Education programs.

Shatell Coleman is the Customer Service Representative for the Council on Teacher Education. Shatell’s career with the Council on Teacher Education spans over 9 years. Shatell is responsible for processing candidacy applications. Has worked in the Council on Teacher Education for over 9 years. Shatell is responsible for processing applications for students seeking admission to candidacy. In addition to Shatell’s work on behalf of the Council on Teacher Education, Shatell is a UIC alumna. Shatell earned a B.A. in English and is currently pursuing an M.Ed. in Youth Development at UIC.

Sierra Ryan is a Graduate Assistant for the Council on Teacher Education. Sierra’s career as a Graduate Assistant spans over 3 years. Sierra is responsible for the coordination of student teaching, social media marketing, maintaining records, facilitating events for student teacher candidates, and providing support to the CTE staff, students and programs. Sierra is currently pursing a MESA M.Ed. and PhD in Educational Psychology, at UIC.

All UIC teacher candidates and school social workers are invited to network with UIC principals, meet Chicago area principals and teachers, and discuss potential hiring opportunities for the 2017-18 academic year. Interested teachers should RSVP by May 5th. You will be asked to upload a current resume when you RSVP. All resumes will be shared with principals prior to the event, but plan to bring along copies of your resumes.
